Property Hire Information

  • Intro

    The church property for Wollongong Wesley (the Church on the Mall) consists of much more than just the church itself. If you are exploring the possibilities for hiring a room or other space, the information on this page should help you.

    Within our complex there are halls and meeting rooms of varying sizes and capacities. This page outlines the spaces that are available for hire by the general public. Click or tap the button to the right to see a sketch of the floor plan (both upstairs and downstairs) of our main property, enabling you to identify each room or space (but note that the Community Care building is not shown on this sketch).

    Within certain terms and conditions (see next section), you can hire any of these five rooms or spaces for your special function – or perhaps as a regular meeting venue for your group. You can make a preliminary booking to hire a room or space by completing the Property Hire Application Form and sending it to the Church Office. The Church Office will endeavour to contact you within three working days to confirm the booking and to arrange payment.

  • The Church

    The Church
    This space seats approximately 230 people in pews facing the front with a central aisle and two side aisles. The space has amazing acoustics, a heritage-listed pipe organ and a grand piano.


    It is very suitable for weddings, memorial services and concerts. The aisles are all carpeted.

    For the use of the church for a wedding, please see the separate Wedding Info page. For uses other than weddings, the costs for hiring this space are:
     $200.00 for a full day function (up to 8hrs);
    $100.00 for a morning, an afternoon or an evening (up to 4hrs).
    $50.00 for use of piano.

  • The Auditorium

    The Auditorium
    Designed initially as the church hall, this venue has a spacious stage, good acoustics, a well-equipped kitchen and a seating capacity of about 140 people – obviously less if people are seated at tables.

    There is a stair-lift to give easy access for those who are disabled. This space has a polished timber floor.

    The costs for hiring this space are:  $200.00 for a full day function (up to 8hrs);
    $100.00 for a morning, an afternoon or
           an evening (up to 4hrs).
    $50.00 for use of piano.

  • The Committee Room

    The Committee Room
    This is a carpeted room (giving excellent acoustics) and is ideal for meetings or for small celebrations. It has a small kitchen attached and can seat approximately 30 people.

    There is a stair-lift to give easy access for those who are disabled.

    The costs for hiring this space are:  $160.00 for a full day (up to 8hrs);
    $80.00 for a morning, an afternoon or an evening (up to 4hrs).

  • The Blue Room

    The Blue Room

    Nobody can remember why this is called “The Blue Room” (it has never been painted blue!) but it is a small room ideally suited for one-on-one or one-with-a-couple counselling, or for a small meeting (say up to eight people) or, say, for a small gathering of people working on a craft or hobby (again, up to eight people).

    Please note that kitchen facilities are not usually attached to the hire of this room.

           The cost for hiring this space is:  $15.00 for a morning, an afternoon  or an evening.

  • The Community Centre Building

    The Community Centre Building

    This building in Court Lane (behind the church) includes a commercial kitchen and has space for approximately 80 people. It is only available for hire during afternoons as it is in use every weekday morning and lunchtime.


    It has easy access for disabled people and there is a small amount of parking on the site. Further parking is available in adjacent commercial carparks.

         The costs for hiring this space are:  $12.50 for an afternoon.

  • Our Terms and Conditions

    Because of the nature of our property (designated for church use) and the legal restrictions upon us, we are obliged to require that those who use our property do so within the scope of church or church-related activities. In particular …

    • We are not able to hire our property for meetings or functions related to any political party, any group with political purposes or any group deemed by us to have anti-social purposes or objectives inconsistent with those of the Uniting Church.
    • Alcohol must not be stored, served, sold or consumed at any function or gathering on our property.
    • No activity that is likely to cause offence to our neighbours or to the general public (such as excessively loud music) is permitted.
    • Use of a particular space by the congregation of Wesley Church must take precedence over any booking from outside the congregation (though we will try always to accommodate the needs of anyone with an existing booking).
    • If the circumstances justify it, the Property Committee has the authority to offer any room or other space at a lower cost than advertised (for example, for a non-profit charity). Prices shown are those currently applying. If prices are changed, the changes will be shown on this page before they come into effect.


    The Wesley Church Property Committee reserves the right to vary any or all of these terms and conditions, should circumstances justify such a variation.

    Prices as shown below are those set for 2018.

  • Book Now or Contact Us

    When you are ready to make a booking, go to the  Property Hire Application Form (click or tap the button to the right) and, when you have completed the form, press the Submit button (once) to send the form to the Church Office. The Church Office will endeavour to contact you within three working days to confirm the booking and to arrange payment. If this contact does not happen, please telephone the Church Office on (02) 4229 2117 (then option 1 on the voice menu).
